This year in College composition I have written several papers and essays in multiple writing styles. I have learned techniques that I was unaware of and honed skills that I already had. As the year progressed my work became more in depth. Instead of just what I had to write, my essays became how I wanted to write them, making them from my point of view and not just a student’s. I discovered that I enjoy writing when it is something I take interest in, and it is relatively easy write about these subjects. For the papers I was excited to write came easily and in better detail because the subject compelled me to spend more of my personal time editing it and trying to create the best essay possible. When I took no interest in the topic, my papers more often than not were half shoddy work that only gave the basics of the subject and did not include very many researched details. It is hard to focus on something you don’t care about enough to present a professional style paper. I also learned that it is more difficult to write essays that focus on your opinion. If you are interested or feel strongly about the subject it is ok, but if it is a topic that I don’t care about it is very difficult. You cannot easily create or figure out what your opinion on controversies that you just don’t care about or don’t agree with either side. This being said, I personally need to work on focus. Focusing on my assignments and strengthening my work ethic for papers and essays that are harder to write. If I can learn to write good essays weather or not it is easy, hard or just plain boring beyond belief then I can always put out good work that will strengthen my grades, thus paving a road for my future beyond the walls of current education.
